Did A Concert Mishap Spark A Viral Moment?

A folk-pop singer had to pause his concert and lead thousands of fans in a sworn pledge — all because someone defecated on the floor during his show.

Story Snapshot

  • A fan defecated on the floor at Noah Kahan’s Philadelphia concert on June 26, 2026, forcing the singer to address it publicly.
  • Two days later in Toronto, Kahan stopped his show and led the entire crowd in a “Poop Pledge” — a group vow not to repeat the incident.
  • Kahan said his main concern was for venue workers, posting online that a staff member had a “1,000-yard stare” after dealing with the mess.
  • A similar incident reportedly happened at another major concert the same week, suggesting this may be a growing problem at large events.

What Happened in Philadelphia

Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan was only a few songs into his Great Divide Tour stop at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on June 26 when a fan defecated on the floor near their seat. The incident was captured on video and spread quickly online. Kahan, 29, responded on social media the next day, writing, “If you have to poop at a show please, dear God, just go to the bathroom.”

Kahan did not just brush it off. He made clear that his concern was for the people who had to clean it up. “There’s a venue worker out there with a 1,000-yard stare after dealing with that,” he wrote online. He also added some self-deprecating humor, noting he had dealt with his own embarrassing moments — but said that was no excuse for leaving a mess on the floor for someone else to handle.

The Toronto Pledge That Went Viral

Two days later, at Rogers Stadium in Toronto on June 28, Kahan addressed the incident head-on from the stage. “This is awkward and it’s fresh in more ways than one,” he told the crowd. He then explained that attending his concert comes with a “social contract,” and that rule number two — after not harming anyone — is not to defecate on the floor.

Kahan then led the entire audience in what fans quickly dubbed the “Poop Pledge.” The crowd repeated after him: “I solemnly swear I will not soil my pants, and if I do, I won’t take it from my pants and put it on the floor.” The moment drew laughs and cheers. Kahan even staged a fake phone call from a fictional “National Center for IBS, Colitis, and Diarrhea,” joking that people with genuine medical conditions had his full understanding and support.

A Gross Trend at Big Concerts

This was not an isolated event. A similar incident reportedly took place at a 5 Seconds of Summer concert in Fort Worth, Texas, the same week. Large outdoor concerts pack tens of thousands of people together, often with long lines for restrooms. That combination can create situations where people make very poor decisions — or simply cannot hold it. The fact that two incidents happened within days of each other at major tours raised eyebrows online.

Major League Baseball’s official social media account even jumped in with jokes, as Kahan was set to perform at a ballpark. TMZ reported that Philadelphia police are not investigating the incident, meaning no charges are expected for the fan involved. The story spread far beyond music fans, becoming one of the more unusual viral moments of the summer concert season. Kahan’s willingness to handle it with humor — while still standing up for the workers who had to clean up the mess — earned him widespread praise from fans and media alike.
