An employee of Church’s Chicken was mowed down by gunfire downside outside an Orange Mound branch of the fast food chain in Tennessee during the week of July 8. The alleged shooter was subsequently arrested, a turn of events that have provoked the victim’s ex-husband to share his relief at the arrest.
The alleged shooter, 45 year-old Monica Williams, was sought by police on charges of first degree murder for fatally shooting Anitra West. Williams cut the search short by walking into a police station and turned herself in.
Lorenzo West, Jr., Anitra West’s ex-husband, took to the Internet to express his gratitude to the police department and to people who took an interest on Facebook for getting the word out, which helped Williams realize that her identity was known and decide to turn herself in. Lorenzo expressed his satisfaction that, sometimes, the law works the way he hopes it would.
According to police, West was shot in head on July 8 while in the parking lot outside of Church’s Chicken. According to the criminal complaint on file, West was working the drive-up window where she got entangled in an argument with Williams when Williams refused to pay for her meal.
West then walked outside to unwind from the altercation, Williams returned in her SUV and opened fire on West. The SUV was found by police the next day in Orange Mound on Deadrick Avenue.
According to investigators, West was on the phone when the argument began, and West stayed on the same phone call up until she died. The friend allegedly heard the customer and west arguing, and the customer shouting “I will kill you.” Then, after West had gone outside, she said that the woman she’d just been in an argument—who had purple hair—had just re-entered the parking lot and was driving towards her.
A moment later, a single gunshot rang out, and no further words were heard from West.
